Congress Must Restore Grad PLUS for Social Workers

Rep. Torres addresses the Social Workers for Justice & Latino Social Work Coalition on the urgent threat posed by new federal student loan caps. Rep. Torres explains why the elimination of Grad PLUS loans and new borrowing limits will devastate the social work pipeline, hitting women, Black and Latino students, and first-generation graduates hardest, and why communities like the South Bronx, already facing severe shortages in mental health and behavioral health providers, cannot absorb these cuts. Rep. Torres calls on Congress to cosponsor H.R. 6677, the Professional Degree Access Restoration Act, which would restore prior federal lending structures for graduate and professional students. The bill has 41 House cosponsors and a Senate companion introduced by Sen. Angela Alsobrooks with 16 Senate cosponsors.
